44th Annual NS Marathon/Half Marathon and 10km

The 44th Annual Nova Scotia Marathon/Half Marathon and 10 km was held on Sunday July 27, 2014 in Barrington, Nova Scotia. There were record breaking numbers for the Full Marathon with 80 participants. There were 111 participants in the Half Marathon and 83 in the 10 km run, for a total of 274 – the highest registration number in the history of the event.

One local runner participated in the Full Marathon – Sasha Wilson, it was her first marathon.

Participants came from Canada, the United States, Mexico, Austria, Great Britain, and Norway. The majority of participants came from Nova Scotia.

The 45th Annual Nova Scotia Marathon/Half Marathon and 10 km will be on July 26, 2015.

Skateboarding Lessons

Intro to skateboarding, July 28th – 30th at the Barrington Arena, 9:30am – 12:00. No experience necessary, all equipment provided. Call the Rec. Dept. to register 637-2903.

Basic Kayaking Lessons

Are you taking your kids camping this summer; just bought some kayaks and not quite sure what to do with them? Worried about how to handle a kayak? Then this course is for you! (and your kids)

For some basic kayaking knowledge sign up for our Kayak safety course.

All gear will be provided, we have enough for eight people.

The course will be held July 2-4 from 1pm – 3pm. Location to be determined. Open to anyone 10 and up.

Composting

A presentation on composting will be held May 21, 6:30 pm at the Sherose Island Recreation Centre.

“A gardener’s best friend, is compost!”

Kirk Symonds (Region 6 Solid Waste Management) will be presenting on the ‘Science of Composting’.

You will learn how to make your own compost, including backyard composting and vermicomposting.

Also included in the presentation, will be an overview of municipal composting—what happens to the stuff in your green bins.

A worm composting kit will be set up and given away to one of our participants.
